YAR! We love music but hate about 99% of the mainstream music that is being thrown at us. This blog was designed to share the music we that harpooned in, so you don't have to sift through the rubbage!

TV On The Radio

TVOTR is definitely one of my favorite bands, they are innovative, catchy and talented. As such, I am pretty amped about their new album, Dear Science, which is due out 09.23.08. The first track I was able to find was dancing choose. The machine gun lyrics remind me of my favorite Saul Williams songs, and the funky beat keeps me coming back for more. Check it out below.

The Deathray Davies - The Kick and the Snare

This is an indie pop band that I recently harpooned that is by no means new or functional. Their last album the Kick and the Snare was released in 2005, and they have been on hiatus for the awhile because their lead singe and founder John Dufilho joined Apples in Stereo and is enjoying some success. Nevertheless, The Kick and the Snare is a fun and catchy album that is worth listening to. Check out the track below for a nibble.

Idiot Pilot - Wolves

Idiot pilot is a post hardcore/electronic band I just uncovered from Bellingham, WA. I guess this is my first post for a post hardcore band, so its time to celebrate because I like them. Their first album Strange We Should Meet Here was released back in 2005 on Clickpop Records. The album was later bought up by Reprise and re-released. I like this album for two reasons, A Day in the Life of a Poolshark and To Buy A Gun which are both great tracks. Their newest album is Wolves, which was released in February 2008. The song Retina in the Sky was on the Transformers soundtrack.. odd. So these guys are fairly mainstream now, but oh well do not lecture me. They remind me of the love child of the Blood Brother and Radiohead/Muse. A mix that I am totally done with. I definitely like their older album much more because it is a little bit raw, whereas Wolves sounds more produced and clean. Thus, losing any hardcore edge that they originally had. Overall, I'd say check out the album Strange We Should Meet Here, because it may be their peak before they become screamo tools of the radio.

My Morning Jacket - Touch me, I'm going to scream

This is the new video for My Morning Jacket's song "Touch me, I'm going to scream. pt.2" from the album Evil Urges. The video is inspired by a Spike Jonze joint. Which you might ask? Well, it's the much talked about adaptation of one of my favorite childhood books, Where the wild things are. Even though the film may never be released, because I heard it will scare the crap out of kids, we can enjoy this video based on a few released clips of the movie. Black Gold: Better Than Texas Tea

Whats the best thing to ever come from Panic at the Disco? Well, if you haven't guessed from the title of this post its Black Gold, the brain child of Eric Ronick (Panic at the Disco, and Ambulance LTD), Than Luu (M. Ward), Siggy (Powerman 5000), and Alistar Paxton (Metronomes). I guess I shouldn't be surprised because Eric Ronick is in Ambulance LTD, and I like them quite a bit. Also, I felt that if Panic became less emo I would probably enjoy them more. Either way, Black Gold is good. The first offering from this up and comer is the EP picture show. It is reminiscent of an Ambulance LTD album, but with grungier beats and a dancey element that reminds me of the Rapture. The result is a melodic, but not complicated indie album with some strong electro-indie offerings, a favorite sub genre of mine.

Detroit is the first song of this EP and it his single potential written all over it. The song starts out with the low droll of an eerie synth beat, which is led through by Ronick's melodic voice. Hints of violin in the background add a nice bit of momentum, before the choruses, which really showcase the qualities of his voice. Idols is another good song off this EP that does not have the dancey electro quality of Detroit, but embraces the character of an infectious indie pop song.

The Sw!ms

This is a band that I found awhile back that has tendency to get stuck in my head for long periods of time. They are a psychedelic retro-pop band from Scranton, PA, which shares members with An Albatross, an electronic noisecore band for those who don't know. Overall, their sound is very harmonic with very solid song writing. The lead singer, Brian Langan, reminds me of a modern reincarnation of Elvis Costello. Their last album, Ride the Blueberry Winter (prison jazz), was released way back in 2006. The band is still touring so I am hopeful that they will have a new album out soon. The album is amazingly catchy and shows mass appeal. I can't peg a specific influence but think '70s and '60s power pop and you will be in the ballpark. One of the reasons that I can't label them is because that album is varied, genre bending, and most of all eclectic. If you are in check them out, they are constantly touring. If your not from the keystone state, look below for free music.

Welcome, this is my music blog. My plan is to post any good new music that I find because sometimes it is a pain to filter through all the music out there. Alot of what I have been finding is people touting artsy indie that long crossed that vast pretentious border. Too be honest, I think I would rather listen to Young Jeezy than that.. maybe not. I am sure I will post some stuff that contradicts this but who cares, this isn't exactly a manifesto.
